‘ देवा ! मला चांगली बुद्धी दे ’ अशी लहानपणी देवळामध्ये जाऊन ईश्वराजवळ प्रार्थना करायचो. पण खरंतर मनुष्य जेव्हा जन्म घेतो तेव्हा ईश्वराकडून दोन Gifts आपल्याला मिळतात. Wisdom (विवेक) आणि freedom (स्वतंत्रता). आज प्रत्येक व्यक्तिला चांगले-वाईट, चूक-बरोबर चे ज्ञान आहे परंतु ते समजल्या नंतर काय करायचे ह्याची स्वतंत्रता सुद्धा आहे. म्हणूनच सर्वांचे भाग्य वेगवेगळे आहे.

एकदा एक राजा जंगलामध्ये शिकार करण्यास गेला. काही अंतरावर त्याला काही लोकांच्या भांडणाचा आवाज ऐकाला येतो. आवाजाच्या दिशेने तो त्या ठिकाणी पोहोचतो तेव्हा तिथे तीन व्यक्ती भांडताना दिसतात. राजाला बघताच ते स्तब्ध उभे राहतात आणि गोंधळून राजालाच प्रश्न विचारतात, कि ‘ राजा ! तुम्हीच सांगा आमच्या मध्ये श्रेष्ठ कोण ? ’ राजा आश्चर्यचकित होऊन म्हणतो, ‘ पहिले तुम्ही मला स्वतः चा परिचय तर दया ’. पहिला व्यक्ति म्हणतो ‘ मी कर्म आहे,’ दुसरा म्हणतो ‘ मी भाग्य आहे ’ आणि तिसरा म्हणतो ‘ मी बुद्धी आहे.’ राजाला पण प्रश्न पडतो. राजा उत्तर देतो कि ‘ कोण श्रेष्ठ आहे हे समजण्यासाठी तुम्हाला काहीतरी करून दाखवायला वागेल.’ त्याच वेळी एक लाकूडतोड्या जाताना त्यांना दिसतो. राजा त्याच्याकडे बोट दाखवून म्हणतो कि ‘ ह्या लाकूडतोड्या मध्ये प्रवेश करून प्रत्येकाला आपली श्रेष्ठता दाखवावी लागेल. सात दिवसाच्या कालावधी मध्ये तुम्ही किती  श्रेष्ठ आहात ह्याचे प्रमाण आपल्या सर्वांनाच मिळेल. ठीक आहे ?’ तीघे ही ह्या गोष्टीसाठी मंजुरी देतात.

पहिला नंबर ‘ कर्म ’ त्या लाकूडतोड्यामध्ये प्रवेश करतो. कर्म करण्याची शक्ती त्या लाकूडतोड्या कडे आहे. परंतु भाग्य आणि बुद्धी नाही.  सकाळपासून संध्याकाळ पर्यंत कर्मठ होऊन तो फक्त लाकडे तोडत राहतो. सात ही दिवस तो खूप परिश्रम करतो. लाकडाचा ढीग तयार होतो परंतु भाग्य आणि बुद्धी नसल्यामुळे लाकडांचा व्यापार करून पैसे कमवण्याच्या  शक्तिचा अभाव दिसून येतो. सात दिवसानंतर ही त्याची परिस्थिती तशीच राहते.

दुसरा नंबर ‘ भाग्य ’. लाकूडतोड्या कडे आता भाग्य आहे परंतु कर्म आणि बुद्धी नाही. हा लाकूडतोड्या सकाळी उठून थोडीशी लाकडे कशीबशी तोडतो. काही लाकडांना विकण्यासाठी बाजारात जातो पण काय आश्चर्य त्या लाकडांची त्याला खूप मोठी किंमत मिळते. कारण त्याच्याकडे भाग्य आहे. खूप पैसे मिळवून तो आनंदी होतो. त्या पैश्याने तो काही वस्तू खरेदी करतो. हळू-हळू त्याला वाईट सवयी ही लागतात. त्या पैशांचा गैरवापर ही होऊ लागतो. पैशाचा सद्उपयोग करण्याची, योग्य ठिकाणी लावण्याची बुद्धी नसल्याने त्याच्या जीवनाचा स्तर थोडासा चांगला होतो परंतु जीवन आरामपसंद वाले बनते.

तिसरा नंबर ‘ बुद्धी ’. ह्या लाकूडतोड्याकडे बुद्धी तर आहे परंतु कर्म आणि भाग्य नाही. अशा परिस्थितीत लाकूडतोड्या हळूहळू का होईना परंतु लाकडे तोडतो. तोडलेली लाकडे बाजारामध्ये घेऊन जाऊन विकायची तर आहेत परंतु भाग्य नसल्यामुळे साधन ही मिळत नाही. अशा परिस्थिती मध्ये तो त्या लाकडांची गाडी बनवून ती खेचत-खेचत बाजारापर्यंत नेतो. लाकडे विकून थोडीशी रक्कम त्याला मिळते. त्या रक्कमेतून एक  नवा व्यापार करण्याचा विचार त्याच्या मनात येतो. तो बाजारातून कमी पैश्याने चणे आणून थोड्या जास्त किमतीने विकण्याचा धंदा सुरु करतो. हळूहळू त्याच्याकडे आणखीन एक नवा व्यवसाय सुरु करून एकाच वेळी दुप्पटी कमाई कशी होऊ शकेल ह्या दिशेने तो बुद्धीचा वापर करू लागतो. आवश्यक तितकेच पैसे खर्च करून काही पैशांचा साठा ही करण्याची युक्ती तो शोधतो. अशा पद्धतीने त्याचे जीवन आर्थिक परिस्थितीने सुधरताना दिसते.

कर्म, भाग्य आणि बुद्धी या तिघांमध्ये बुद्धीच श्रेष्ठ आहे असे राजा घोषित करतो. practical life मध्ये अशी कितीतरी उदाहरणे आपल्या समोर आहेत. जसे दिवंगत अब्दुल कलामजी, धीरूभाई अंबानी, ——–

बुद्धी ही एक  शक्ती आहे. ह्या शक्तिचा वापर चांगल्या कार्यासाठी अथवा वाईटासाठी ही होऊ शकतो. बुद्धी अर्थात निर्णयशक्ति, परखशक्ति .

आपल्या जीवनात किती ही उतार-चढाव आले तरी ही शून्यातून कशी सुरुवात करावी, कुठे परिश्रम करावे, कोणावर किती विश्वास ठेवावा ———– प्रत्येक बाबींचा विचार करून निर्णय घेतल्याने आपले धन, वेळ, शारिरीक ऊर्जा ह्यांची बचत होऊ शकते.  सफलतेचा मार्ग किती ही कठीण असला तरीही दृढतेने पुढे जाण्याची शक्ति आपणास मिळते.

पौराणिक कथांमध्ये आपण अशी ही पात्र बघितली आहेत की ज्यांची बुद्धी अतिशय तल्लख होती जसे बीरबल, चाणक्य, अष्टावक्र ——– ह्यांच्या जीवनामध्ये भावना आणि विवेक ह्यांचे संतुलन दिसून येते. भावनाप्रधान व्यक्ति कधी-कधी भावनांच्या आहारी जाऊन चुकीचे निर्णय घेऊ शकतो आणि त्याउलट अति विवेकी मनुष्य व्यावहारिक जीवनामध्ये कठोर दिसून येतो परंतु जर दोघांचे balance असेल तर आयुष्यात आलेल्या वेगवेगळ्या समस्यांवर कुशलतेने मात करण्याची शक्ति येते.

बुद्धी एक पात्र आहे, तिजोरी आहे. ह्या बुद्धीमध्ये ज्ञान भरले असेल तर जीवन उज्ज्वल होईल. आजच्या ह्या कलियुगामध्ये आपण आपले valuables (अमूल्य वस्तू) lockers मध्ये ठेवतो कारण ते किमती आहेत. तसेच आपण ह्या बुद्धीरूपी तिजोरीमध्ये ज्ञान भरून ठेवावे. कारण जितके ज्ञान वाढत जाईल तितके जीवन उच्चकोटीचे होईल. जसे दिपकामध्ये वाती आणि घृत ह्या दोन्ही गोष्टी असतील तर त्याचे महत्व आहे. बुद्धीरूपी दिपकामध्ये ज्ञानाचे घृत असेल तर जीवनाची वात प्रकाशित होईल.

बुद्धीबळ (chess) खेळणारा व्यक्ति आपल्या बुद्धीचा वापर करून, त्या खेळाचे नियम समजून त्या खेळामध्ये पारंगत होतो. त्याचप्रमाणे आपण ही ज्ञानाच्या आधाराने जीवनाचे नियम समजून, बुद्धीचा वापर करून प्रत्येक कार्य करावे. तेव्हाच आयुष्यामध्ये संतुष्टतेचे धन कमवू शकतो. स्थूल धनासोबत संतुष्टतेचे धन ही आपण बुद्धीबळाद्वारे प्राप्त करू शकतो. सुखी-समाधानी होऊ शकतो.
